2014 Regular Season Schedule Released
The Mudcats' 2014 regular season schedule was released Sunday. It promises to be another exciting season in the Greater Flint Baseball League as we have been placed in the same division as two other Grand Blanc teams as well as teams throughout the region.
There is still one more game (against Goodrich) to be added at a later date.

Hitting League Champs
The Mudcats entered two teams in the winter hitting league at Foutch's Strike Zone and it was a highly successful season to say the least! Mudcats-1 went undefeated (6-0) throughout the regular season, beating Mudcats-2 in the final game of the season by a score of 8-5 on the strength of a five run rally in the eighth. Had Mudcats-2 won the game, they would have won the regular season title!
In the league's post-season tournament both teams were dominant once more, meeting up in the championship game. Mudcats-1 again came out on top, this time by a score of 14-13. The title game was in every way a thriller, decided in the final inning with two runs on singles by Justin Pijaszek and Jason Caine.
Eight teams and 37 players took part in the league, but the leaders board was dominated by Mudcats. Kyle Genord (.550), Brian Caine (.540), Kyle Pijaszek (.491) and Kyle Belger (.475) registered the top four batting averages in the league, with Jason Caine (.439) coming in at seventh in the league and Lon Martin (.356) not far behind. The top four slugging percentages also belonged to Kyle Pijaszek (.855), Kyle Genord (.800), Brian Caine (.720) and Kyle Belger (.705), with Jack Scribner (.603) finishing eighth in the league and Lon Martin (.559) again close behind. Only four players in the league knocked in double-digits, and all four were Mudcats: Kyle Belger (15), Kyle Pijaszek (13), Kyle Genord (11) and Jack Scribner (10), with Justin Pijaszek (8) tied for sixth in the league in RBIs. Kyle Genord, Kyle Pijaszek and Jack Scribner (6 each) tied for the league lead in triples and Lon Martin (4) trailed only that trio on the season.
To a man, every player made big contributions throughout the season. Garrett Sitko was hitting the ball well until he broke a wrist mid-season, and Brendan Silpoch saved his best for last, going 5-9 in the championship game, including the hit that started the game-winning rally.
Suffice it to say, the Mudcats dominated the league. Now we wait for the weather to improve and turn our attention toward the summer!

Mudcats Take Fall Ball Pennant
Coming into the final weekend of the fall ball season, the Mudcats needed to take care of business and get a little help if they were going to take home a regular season title. They were tied for first with the Michigan Young Guns, but had lost both head-to-head matchups, meaning that any tie-breaker would go to the Young Guns.
A window of opportunity existed, but it would require a Young Guns loss in one of their two games Sunday against the bottom two teams in the standings. That window was left cracked open when Swartz Creek upset the Young Guns before falling to the Mudcats themselves. This meant that going into the final game of the season -- a matchup with a talented Westside Panthers squad -- the title was theirs for the taking.
The Mudcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but saw the Panthers rally for four of their own to make it a one-run game. Then with one out in bottom half of the game's final inning, the Panthers tied the game and put the winning run in scoring position. The Mudcats would not be denied though, as they held them scoreless from there for a title-clinching 5-5 tie.
The post-season playoffs are next Sunday afternoon as the #1 seeded Mudcats open against the winner of the Swartz Creek/Grand Blanc Gladiators game for an opportunity to compete in the tournament's championship game.
